DURHAM, N.C. – The Elon University men's golf team is in 14th place following the first two rounds of the 2021 Rod Myers Invitational. Duke is hosting the tournament at its par-72, 7,154-yard Golf Club.
 
As a team, the Phoenix sits at 30-over par 606 after carding a 302 in the opening round and a 304 in round two. North Carolina leads the field with a 25-under 551, NC State is in second with a 17-under 559, and North Florida rounds out the top three teams with an eight-under 568. The host Blue Devils are tied for fourth with Virginia Tech after shooting a 569 (-7).

"First off we're happy to be back in the saddle," said head coach Don Hill. "It was great to feel those first tee nerves and have the opportunity to compete. And make no mistake, no one in this locker room is happy about our performance today. But this team has a chance to be really special. Three freshmen got their first taste of college golf. We will learn from today and we have to be tougher and smarter. I expect we will bounce back tomorrow in a big way."
 
HIGHLIGHTS
Matthew Doyle is tied for 43rd and enters the final day with a four-over 148. William Frodigh is one stroke behind him and tied for 49th with a plus-five 149. Next for the Phoenix is Garrett Risner, who sits tied for 68th after turning in a 154 (+10). Rounding out the scores for the team are Juan Callejo Ropero, who is tied for 72nd with a 156, and Max Ferrari, who is 78th with a 158.

Frodigh led the Phoenix with 25 putts for par.
