ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 10, when it travels to Harrisonburg, Va. for a 7 p.m. matchup with James Madison.

THE MATCHUP
- Thursday night marks the 19th meeting between Elon and James Madison.
- The Phoenix and the Dukes are tied in the all-time series, 9-9.
- In the most recent meeting between the two programs, Elon dominated JMU, 90-67, on Jan. 17, 2022, at Schar Center.
- Kris Wooten led the charge for the Phoenix, dropping a career-high 23 points, adding two rebounds and two assists in 28 minutes of action. Hunter McIntosh added 18 points, seven assists and three rebounds in 25 minutes.
- Darius Burford finished with 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists in the win, while Michael Graham chipped in 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and two blocks in his 24 minutes on the court.

SCOUTING ELON
- Former CAA All-Rookie honoree Darius Burford is currently leading the team in scoring (13.3 ppg), assists (3.2 apg) and steals (1.8 spg), while being third on the team in rebounding (4.2 rpg). Burford has scored in double figures 15 times and has nabbed at least two steals in 11 games this season. His 15.8 ppg scoring averaging in conference play also ranks fifth in the CAA.
- Junior guard and Preseason All-CAA First Team honoree Hunter McIntosh, ranks second the team in scoring at 12.3 points per game, adding 3.0 assists per contest. McIntosh has scored in double figures in 49 career games, including 15 times this season. He currently ranks in the top-10 in the conference in scoring at 14.2 ppg through 11 CAA contests this year. McIntosh enters tomorrow's game just seven points shy of 1,000 career points (993).
- Sophomore center Michael Graham ranks third on the team in scoring (9.7 ppg), while leading the team in rebounding at 7.2 rpg. Graham has scored at least 10 points in 10 of his last 12 games and has registered six double doubles this season. His 12.5 ppg scoring output in conference play ranks in the top-16 while his 8.4 rebounding average (3rd) and 70.9 field goal percentage (1st) each rank in the top-3 in the CAA.
- Torrence Watson is fourth on the team in scoring 9.2 points per game, adding 3.0 rebounds per contest as well. Watson has gotten to the charity stripe a team-high 61 times this season, knocking down 52 of his attempts for an 85.2 free throw percentage.
- Junior forward Zac Ervin is fifth on the team in scoring, averaging 7.7 points per game, adding 3.2 rebounds per contest. Ervin has knocked down 41 threes while shooting at a 36.3 percent clip from long distance so far this season.
- Junior forward Hunter Woods is chipping in 6.3 points and 4.5 rebounds in 24.7 minutes through 23 games this season. Woods is also currently second on the team in steals this season with 28 total.
- Senior forward Chuck Hannah is averaging 4.6 points and 3.3 rebounds in 24.0 minutes per game.
- Freshman center Sam Sherry has gotten his Elon career off to a solid start, averaging 2.4 points in just under eight minutes of action per game.
- Elon currently ranks in the top-2 in the CAA in total threes made (217 – 2nd), threes made per game (9.0 – 2nd), field goal percentage defense (43.1 – 2nd) and total assists (318 – 2nd).
- Elon set a program record for points at Schar Center (107), threes made (20) and assists (27) in its home opener against Randolph.
- Seniors Chuck Hannah and Kris Wooten will serve as the team captains for the 2021-22 season.
- This season marks the third for Head Coach Mike Schrage at the helm of the Elon program.
 
SCOUTING JAMES MADISON
- JMU enters the contest with an 13-9 overall record and 4-7 record in CAA play after falling to Drexel, 72-66, in its most recent contest. Vado Morse led the way for the Dukes, dropping 17 points and four assists. Terrence Edwards added 14 points and six boards, while Alonzo Sule chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds.
- Mark Byington is in the midst of his second season at the helm of the JMU program. Byington spent seven seasons as the head coach at Georgia Southern prior to taking over the Dukes program.
- The Dukes are led by Vado Morse who leads the team in scoring at 15.9 ppg and assists at 2.5 apg. JMU has also gotten contributions from Takal Molson (12.3 ppg and 5.2 rpg) and Charles Falden (11.3 ppg and 3.0 rpg) so far this season.

LAST TIME OUT
- Elon fell to Charleston in a battle, 66-64, on Saturday, Feb. 5, at Schar Center.
- Hunter McIntosh led the charge for the Phoenix, dropping 20 points, five rebounds and three assists in 36 minutes. The performance marked the 15th double-digit scoring output for the junior this year and was his third 20+ point game this season. McIntosh now stands just seven points shy of 1,000, as the Snellville, Ga. native has scored 993 points to this point in his Elon career.
- Darius Burford added 14 points, four assists and three rebounds in 35 minutes of action. The sophomore has scored at least 10 points in 15 games this season and in 22 contests in his collegiate career.
- Michael Graham finished the night with eight points and two rebounds, while Kris Wooten added seven points, two rebounds and two assists.
- Zac Ervin and Hunter Woods combined for 10 points, nine rebounds and two blocks in the loss.
- The Phoenix held Charleston to a season-low 13 percent (3-of-23) mark from three-point range.
 
THE FACES OF 2021-22
- Elon returned three starters in Chuck Hannah, All-CAA Second Team honoree Hunter McIntosh and CAA All-Rookie selection Darius Burford.
- Other returnees for the Phoenix includes seniors Jerald Gillens-Butler, Kris Wooten and Charlie Mendys, juniors Ben Daugherty, Hunter Woods and Zac Ervin, and sophomores Michael Graham and JaDun Michael.
-Additionally, the maroon and gold welcomes five newcomers to the squad in Mizzou transfer Torrence Watson, Mississippi State transfer Andrew Junkin and freshmen RJ Noord, Sam Sherry and Reece Clark.
 
CAA PRESEASON POLL
- The Colonial Athletic Association announced its preseason poll on Thursday, Oct. 28, with Elon tabbed to finish sixth.
- The Phoenix had two student-athletes earn preseason all-conference honors in Hunter McIntosh (1st Team) and Jerald Gillens-Butler (Honorable Mention).
- Elon earned a total of 202 points in the poll, including one first-place vote.
- Delaware was chosen as the preseason favorite with 296 points and 19 first-place votes, followed by Northeastern with 246 points and seven first-place votes. Drexel (234 points; five first-place votes), James Madison (224 points, three first-place votes) and Hofstra (211 points; one first-place vote) rounded out the top five.
 
COMING SOON
- The Phoenix is back in action on Feb. 10 when it travels to Harrisonburg, Va. to take on JMU.
- Following that contest, Elon remains on the road for a Saturday afternoon matchup with Towson in Towson, Md.
- The Phoenix will then have three home contests in five days as it takes on Hofstra (Feb. 15), Delaware (Feb. 17) and Drexel (Feb. 19 – Senior Day) respectively.
