PINEHURST, N.C. – Elon University men's golfer
Bronson Myers recorded a two-under par 70 and is in first place following the opening round of the Forest Creek Collegiate on Saturday, March 12. The University of Richmond is hosting the Collegiate at the par-72, 6925-yard North Course at Forest Creek Golf Club.
"Tough conditions today at Forest Creek," said head coach
Don Hill. "Bronson played some incredible golf with a bogey-free 70. I think we're really close to putting it all together as a team and hopefully that happens tomorrow. I'm just extremely proud of our attitudes today."
As a team, the Phoenix combined to shoot a nine-over 297 and is tied for third with the host Spiders. UNCW is atop the standings with a two-over 290 and VCU is in second place at 294 (+6).
HIGHLIGHTS
Myers birdied the par-4 seventh hole as well as the par-3 14th hole.
Matthew Doyle was next for the Phoenix and tied for 20th with a three-over 75. He tallied six birdies on the day with three on the front nine and another three on the back nine, but also had nine bogeys.
Juan Callejo Ropero and
William Frodigh are both tied for 29th at four-over 76 while
Max Ferrari,
Garrett Risner and
Pedro Rabadan all carded a five-over 77 to tie for 35th.
UP NEXT
Round two is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start on Sunday.
