Men's Golf Finishes Fifth at Forest Creek Collegiate

PINEHURST, N.C. – Elon University men's golf finished in fifth place at the Forest Creek Collegiate after turning in a 10-over par 298 on Sunday, March 13. The University of Richmond hosted the Collegiate at the par-72, 6925-yard North Course at Forest Creek Golf Club.

"Congratulations to UNC Wilmington," said head coach Don Hill. "They played outstanding golf the last two days in tough conditions. I thought we were good, not great, but good yesterday and had high hopes that we could put together four rounds today to make a run at the team title. Unfortunately, that wasn't meant to be."

The Phoenix ended up with a 36-hole total of 595 (+19). UNCW held on to win the team title with a one-under 575, and Davidson and VCU tied for second place at 10-over 586. The host Spiders finished four strokes ahead of Elon and in fourth place at 591 (+15). UNCW also had the top two individual finishers as Walker Isley won the Collegiate with a four-under 140 and Drew Hackett took second with a three-under 141.

HIGHLIGHTS
Garrett Risner made a jump in the standings after tallying four birdies on the day, to include three on the back nine. The Holly Springs, N.C. native record a one-under 71 in the final round to finish tied for 18th at 148 (+4). Bronson Myers also finished tied for 18th after posting a 78 on the day. Next for the Phoenix was Matthew Doyle, who hit a two-over 74 to tie for 22nd at 149 (+5). Pedro Rabadan rounded out Elon's scores with a 10-over 154 to tie for 48th.

"Overall, I'm excited about what these young men can accomplish in the coming weeks," added Hill. "We need to get back to rest and tweak a few things. We've put ourselves in contention nearly every week this season. As a young team, we're still learning how to play our best golf when we need it the most."

UP NEXT
The team has a couple weeks off until it travels to Kannapolis, N.C. on April 2-3 for the University of Charlotte's Irish Creek Intercollegiate.
