SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. – Elon University men's golf earned a runner-up finish on the final day of the 2022 Ross Collegiate Classic on Tuesday, March 8. The Classic was hosted by George Mason at the par-72, 6633-yard course at Mid Pines Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C. 

After round two was halted on Monday due to darkness, the Phoenix recorded a 296 for the round and followed with a one-over par 289 in round three to finish at 13-over and in second place with an 877. Seton Hall captured the team title with a nine-over 873 and Richmond placed third with an 882 (+18). Princeton's William Huang and North Carolina's Kenan Poole were co-champions with scores of six-under 210.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
Garrett Risner had a top-10 finish as he tied for 10th with a one-over par 217. The sophomore from Holly Springs, N.C. turned in a pair of 73s in rounds two and three. Next for the maroon and gold were Matthew Doyle and William Frodigh, who both ended up at six-over 222 to tie for 21st. Doyle recorded a 77 in round two, but finished strong with a one-under 71 through the final 18 holes while Frodigh shot rounds of 74 and 75. Juan Callejo Ropero and Bronson Myers were one stroke behind Doyle and Frodigh and tied for 25th at 223 (+7). Callejo Ropero followed a round two of 75 with a two-under 70 and Myers posted a 74 and 75. Timmy Gannon rounded out Elon's scores with a 13-over 229 to tie for 56th. The freshman from Charlotte, N.C. carded a 79 in round two, but bounced back with an even 72 in round three.

Risner ended up fourth in par-4 scoring with a 3.93 average, recorded the only eagle by the Phoenix and made a team-high 12 birdies. Callejo Ropero tallied 39 pars in the Classic and Frodigh was close behind him with 36.
