ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women's basketball team returns to play, as it travels to High Point for its final nonconference matchup of the season this Saturday, Dec. 30. Tipoff between the Phoenix (3-9) and the Panthers (5-7) is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Qubein Center.

THE SERIES
- Saturday will be the 79th meeting between Elon and High Point in a series dating back to 1971-72. Both teams are tied 39-39 in the all-time series.
- Elon has won the past three matchups against the Panthers including a 60-57 win with an Ajia James three-pointer buzzer-beater in Schar Center on Nov. 13, 2022.
- The Phoenix trails the Panthers in the all-time series when on the road 18-13.
LAST TIME OUT
- Elon defeated Mount Olive 65-39 on Tuesday, Dec. 19 improving their overall record on the season to 3-9.
- Iycez Adams and Ajia James tied for a team-best 13 points, both players have scored double-figures in back-to-back contests for the Phoenix.
- Adams went 5-for-7 from the floor while James went 5-for-15 going 3-for-8 from the three-point line.
- Maraja Pass recorded her sixth double-figure game this season with 10 points against the Trojans. For the second consecutive game Pass has scored at least 10 points, grabbed five rebounds, and dished out seven assists.
- Hannah Dereje flirted with a double-double recording career-highs in both points (8) and rebounds (7).
- Every Elon player that saw the court had at least four boards led by Dereje (7) and Adams (8).
- Adams ranks fourth in the league averaging 1.5 blocked shots per game and tenth in rebounds per game averaging 6.5 boards.
- Pass ranks third in the CAA in assists (48) and sixth in assists per game (4.0).
- As a team, Elon outrebounded the Trojans 56-27, their highest rebounding margin of the season (+29).
- Twelve is the lowest allowed points in a half since Elon allowed eight to Western Carolina in 2019.
- The 26-point margin of victory is the largest since the Phoenix defeated Gardner-Webb by 28 (88-60) in 2020.
SCOUTING HIGH POINT
- High Point comes into the matchup with a 5-7 record and coming off a 48-47 win against newest member of the CAA, Campbell on Thursday, Dec. 21.
- High Point was picked to finish first in the Big South Conference Preseason Poll.
- Graduate transfer Lauren Bevis was selected as the Big South Preseason Player of the year, while junior guard Nakyah Terrell was named to the Big South All-Conference Second Team.
- Bevis is the only Panther player averaging double-figures at 15.2 points per game which ranks No. 2 in the league. She also paces the conference in free-throw percentage at 87.5 percent (42-for-48) and averaging 2.5 three-point field goals per game.
- Terrell leads the team on the boards averaging 4.1 rebounds per game while also dishing out a team high 3.2 assists per game.
- Amaria McNear is averaging a team-high and league-high 1.3 blocked shots per game.
- As a team, the Panthers lead the league in blocked shots with 37 averaging 3.08 blocks per game and team free-throw percentage going 70.8 percent from the line.
- Chelsea Banbury is at the helm of the High Point program in her fifth season. She holds a 77-56 record leading the Panthers and was named one of the 20 members on the preseason watch list for the 2024 Kathy Delaney-Smith Mid-Major Coach of the Year Award presented by Her Hoop Stats.
EDUCATION DAY IS BACK AGAIN
- The Elon women's basketball team will welcome local elementary school students to campus again this season for a fun-filled Education Day matinee.
- The game this year will be against Northeastern on Feb. 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in Schar Center. This marks the second time that Elon held an Education Day since Jan. 27, 2011.
- Last year the program welcomed more than 2,400 elementary school students from 10 Alamance-Burlington School System schools as well as Burlington Christian Academy and The Burlington School. Overall, 3,087 fans attended the game, marking the largest crowd in Elon's Division I era. This was also the largest crowd recorded by the conference last season which helped Elon land second in total attendance with 25,859.
