Women’s Basketball Announces 2023-24 Non-Conference Schedule

ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's basketball head coach Charlotte Smith announced the program's 2023-24 non-conference schedule on Tuesday, Aug. 29. The slate is highlighted by five home dates and a pair of contests at Power Five opponents NC State and North Carolina.

The Phoenix will open the season at home in an exhibition matchup against Mars Hill on Nov. 3 before kicking off the regular season against East Carolina on Nov. 6 in Schar Center. Elon and the Pirates will be meeting for the first time since 2014.

Elon then travels to Gardner-Webb on Nov. 11, before going on the road against a pair of ACC foes in NC State on Nov. 15 and UNC on Nov. 18.

Coach Smith and the Phoenix will return to Carmichael Arena for the first time since 2019. Smith is one of two women's basketball players to have her jersey number retired for the Tar Heels. In 1994, Coach Smith hit "The Shot" to beat Louisiana Tech in the national title game to give UNC their first women's basketball national championship.

The maroon and gold go on the road again to Atlanta, Ga. for a Thanksgiving tournament at Georgia State University on Nov. 22-23. This will be the second consecutive year the Phoenix will spend a holiday competing in an out-of-state tournament.

After Thanksgiving Break, the Phoenix will travel to face Old Dominion on Nov. 28 and return home on Dec. 2 to host Wingate. Elon continues with a pair of road contests at UNCG on Dec. 10 before traveling to Furman on Dec. 14.

After its two-game road swing, Elon will host Marshall on Dec. 17 followed by Mount Olive on Dec.19. The maroon and gold will close out its non-conference slate on the road against High Point on Dec. 30.

The 2023-24 CAA conference home and away matchups have been released. The Phoenix will play permanent repeat opponents Campbell, Hofstra, NC A&T as well as Northeastern and William & Mary home and away. Elon will host Charleston, Drexel, Towson and UNCW at the Schar Center while traveling to Delaware, Hampton, Monmouth, Northeastern and Stony Brook.

The full 2023-24 CAA schedule with dates and game time will be announced at a later date, while the 2023 CAA Women's Basketball Championship is set for March 13-17 at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, D.C. Game times for the Phoenix's non-conference slate will be released at a future date.
