RICHMOND, VA. – Elon women's basketball freshman guard
Jayda Angel has been named the CAA Rookie of the Week on Monday, November 11, following standout performances in two home wins for the Phoenix last week.
Angel made a strong impression in her first two collegiate games, leading the Phoenix in scoring in victories over High Point and Gardner-Webb.
Against the Panthers, she scored a team-high 18 points off the bench, with 12 of those points coming in the fourth quarter. Angel shot 8-for-13 from the field, including 2-for-3 from beyond the arc, and added two rebounds and a steal.
She continued her impressive start on Friday against Gardner-Webb, once again leading the team with 17 points off the bench. Angel nearly recorded a double-double, collecting seven rebounds and a steal. She shot 3-for-7 from three-point range and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.
This weekly honor is the first of Angel's career and the CAA first Rookie of the Week award this season.
Elon will hit on the road to face Marshall on Wednesday, November 13, with tipoff set for 6 p.m.
