Women’s Basketball Travels To Virginia Tech Saturday

ELON, N.C. — The Elon women's basketball team (3-1) is set to travel to Blacksburg to face the Virginia Tech Hokies (4-1) on Saturday, November 23. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.

THE SERIES   
  • Virginia Tech leads the all-time series over the Phoenix 3-0.
  • The teams last met on March 17, 2016, in the first round of the NIT Tournament, where Elon fell 68-59.
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Phoenix defeated Kent State 66-63 on Saturday, November 16, at Schar Center.
  • Raven Preston recorded her second double-double of the season with 21 points, 11 rebounds, and five steals, earning Co-CAA Player of the Week honors on November 18.
  • Laila Anderson ledElon in scoring with 23 points on 8-for-12 shooting, including 5-for-6 from the free-throw line.
  • Maraja Pass dished out five assists, while Iycez Adams posted a team-high three blocks.
  • The Phoenix defense forced a season-high 26 turnovers, recording a season-best 18 steals.

PRESEASON PRAISE
  • The Phoenix was picked to finish seventh in the CAA Preseason Poll.
  • Senior forward Iycez Adams was selected to the Preseason All-CAA Second Team while redshirt sophomore guard Raven Preston earned Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention honors.
  • Adams averaged a team-best 10.3 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game last season.
  • She tied for second in the league last season in blocks per game and was third in the conference in total blocked shots (49).
  • The Greensboro, N.C. native recorded five double-double performances last year, including three straight from Jan. 14-21, 2024. 
  • Raven Preston returns to play this season for the Phoenix after missing last season due to injury. Preston became the first CAA Rookie of the Year in Elon program history after averaging 11.2 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.
  • The two will play together for the Phoenix for the first time since playing with each other in 2020-21 at Quality Education Academy.
SCOUTING VIRGINIA TECH
  • Virginia Tech improved to 4-1 after a 91-80 win over Rutgers on Tuesday, November 19.
  • The Hokies was picked 12th in the 2024-25 ACC Preseason Poll.
  • Rose Micheaux recorded 16 points and a career-high 17 rebounds, marking her second double-double of the season.
  • Carleigh Wenzel (19 points), Matilda Ekh (13 points), and Samyha Suffren (16 points) all scored in double figures.
  • Suffren led the Hokies with four assists, while Wenzel tallied five steals and went 3-for-6 from beyond the arc.
  • Megan Duffy is in her first season as head coach of Virginia Tech.
