Women’s Basketball Continues California Road Swing At Long Beach State

ELON, N.C. — The Elon women's basketball team (4-5) continues its California road swing as they face Long Beach State (5-4) on Thursday, December 19. Tipoff is slated for 4 p.m. EST.

THE SERIES

Thursday will be the first meeting all-time between Elon and Long Beach State.

LAST TIME OUT

Elon fell at No. 5 USC 88-30 on Sunday, Dec. 15.
Hannah Dereje led the team with 10 points and a season-high seven rebounds.
Maraja Pass dished out a team-high four assists while Iycez Adams added a block.

JAYDA'S ANGELS

Freshman Jayda Angel has earned two CAA Rookie of the Week honors to start the 2024-25 season.
Angel tallied 12 points shooting 4-for-9 from the field while also adding nine rebounds, two assists and a steal in the team's win over Longwood.
Angel notched her first career 20-point performance against Elon's first Power Four matchup of the season.
She led all Phoenix scorers with 20 points, shooting 7-for-13 from the field, and added six rebounds and two steals, tying for the team lead in both categories, during the game against Virginia Tech.
She made a strong impression in her first two collegiate games, leading the Phoenix in scoring in victories over High Point and Gardner-Webb.
Angel averaged 17.5 points in her first collegiate week.
She nearly reached a double-double against the Bulldogs with seven rebounds and 17 points.

PRESEASON PRAISE

The Phoenix was picked to finish seventh in the CAA Preseason Poll.
Senior forward Iycez Adams was selected to the Preseason All-CAA Second Team while redshirt sophomore guard Raven Preston earned Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention honors.
Adams averaged a team-best 10.3 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game last season.
She tied for second in the league last season in blocks per game and was third in the conference in total blocked shots (49).
The Greensboro, N.C. native recorded five double-double performances last year, including three straight from Jan. 14-21, 2024.
Raven Preston returns to play this season for the Phoenix after missing last season due to injury. Preston became the first CAA Rookie of the Year in Elon program history after averaging 11.2 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.
The two will play together for the Phoenix for the first time since playing with each other in 2020-21 at Quality Education Academy.

SCOUTING LONG BEACH STATE

Long Beach State holds a 5-4 record after a 102-51 loss to UCLA on Dec. 14.
The Beach was projected to finish fourth in the Big West Preseason Coaches' Poll.
Savannah Tucker leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.8 points per game, followed by Jada Cranshaw, who contributes 11.5 points per game.
Rachel Loobie leads the Beach in rebounding, averaging 6.7 boards per game, while Tucker tops the team with 30 assists this season.
Amy Wright is in her second season leading the Long Beach State program.

UP NEXT

The maroon and gold will return home to Schar Center on Tuesday, December 31, to host Lees-McRae. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
