Elon Welcomes Hofstra Thursday; Hosts Drexel For Senior Day Saturday at 12 P.M.

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women's basketball team (10-19, 6-10) will host Hofstra (9-18, 3-13) on Thursday night and Drexel (13-14, 8-8) on Saturday afternoon for the final homestand of the season. Tipoff for Thursday's game with be at 7 p.m. and will celebrate Elon Day while Sunday's 12 p.m. contest will be Senior Day for the Phoenix recognizing Jessica Booth, Ajia James, Maya Johnson and Vanessa Taylor.

SERIES HISTORY VS. HOFSTRA, DREXEL
  • Elon and Hofstra will meet for the second time this season and the 20th time overall in the all-time series with Elon holding a 15-4 advantage over the Pride.
  • The Phoenix won on the road 55-54 against the Pride earlier this season on Jan. 21, 2024.
  • Iycez Adams and Maraja Pass led the Phoenix netting 12 points apiece. Adams recorded her third consecutive double-double with 12 points and a career-high 14 boards against Hofstra.
  • Drexel leads the all-time series against Elon 14-5.
  • The Phoenix fell last season 61-49 against the Dragons on Jan. 29, 2023.
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Phoenix won on the road defeating Delaware 54-49 on Sunday afternoon.
  • Vanessa Taylor led the Phoenix for the fourth time scoring 12 points going 4-for-7 from the field while also adding two rebounds, two assists and two steals.
  • On the glass, Ajia James paced the team with seven rebounds while also adding 11 points and one steal.
  • Pass added three assists eclipsing 100 assists this season, the most by an Elon freshman since Tierra Bumbrey recorded 110 in 2004-05.
  • Adams led the team with a career-high four steals along with a team-high two blocks.
  • At the half the Phoenix outnumbered Delaware in offensive rebounds (7-6), steals (7-5) and points in the paint 8-6.
  • Elon outnumbered the Blue Hens in rebounds (38-35), steals (14-8) and points off the bench (24-17).
SCOUTING HOFSTRA
  • Hofstra sits with a 9-18 record on the season and is 3-13 in league play after falling to Hampton and Monmouth last weekend.
  • The Pride finished the 2022-23 campaign with an overall record of 12-20 going 4-14 in conference play to finish 12th.
  • Hofstra was picked to finish 12th in the 2023-24 CAA Preseason Poll.
  • Sophomore guard Emma Von Essen leads the team with 12.5 points per game shooting 40.2 percent (125-for-311) from the field so far this season. She leads the conference in three-point field goals per game with 2.9 and three-point field goal percentage at 38.2%.
  • Zyheima Swint paces the Pride and ranks second in the CAA in boards per game at 8.0. Swint grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds earlier this season against Wagner. Swint also leads the team in blocks (27) and blocks per game (1.1).
  • Ally Knights has a team-high 3.4 assists per game ranking tied for eighth in the CAA and ranks third in assist-turnover ratios at 1.6.
  • As a team, the Pride rank second in the league in offensive rebounds per game (14.1).
  • Danielle Santos Atkinson is entering her fifth season leading the Hofstra women's basketball program.
SCOUTING DREXEL
  • Drexel split in their most recent CAA weekend. The Dragons fell to Stony Brook 60-58 before defeating Campbell 59-54 at home on Sunday afternoon. Drexel is now 13-14 overall and 8-8-8 in conference play.
  • Last season, the Dragons went 21-10 and 13-5 in league play finishing second in the CAA.
  • Drexel was upset by Monmouth in the first round of the CAA tournament before falling to Fordham in the opening round of the WNIT tournament. 
  • Drexel was picked to finish seventh in the 2023-24 CAA Preseason Poll.
  • Brooke Mullin (10.6) and Amaris Baker (10.0) lead the Dragons averaging double figures. Both guards are shooting over 33 percent from the field.
  • Grace O'Neill and Chloe Hodges pace Drexel on the glass each averaging 5.4 rebounds per game.
  • Mullin has a team-high 101 assists averaging 3.7 per game, ranking tied for fifth in the CAA while also leading the teams in blocked shots per game at 1.4 and steals with 37.
  • O'Neill is tied for the lead in the conference in assist/turnover ratio at 2.0.
  • Drexel leads the conference in assist/turnover ratio at 1.19 and is second in the league in turnover margin at 3.37.
  • Amy Mallon is in her fourth season at the helm of the Dragons program. Mallon has been around Drexel women's basketball for the past 17 seasons as an assistant coach and associate head coach.
