Phoenix Rings In New Year With CAA Play

Elon Welcomes Monmouth, Hampton In CAA Opening Weekend

ELON – The Elon women's basketball team opens CAA play in the opening weekend of the 2026 calendar year, hosting Monmouth on Friday at 7 p.m. ET and Hampton for Princess Day on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET in Schar Center.
 
The Phoenix (5-7) set the program scoring record by defeating N.C. Wesleyan 111-50 in its nonconference finale on Tuesday night, and will look to carry that momentum into league play.

INSIDE THE MATCHUPS
vs. Monmouth
  • Series record: Elon leads, 3-2
  • Elon has won three of the last four meetings between the teams, including their most recent contest, 70-54, last season on March 8, 2025.
  • All five previous games between Elon and Monmouth have been as CAA foes dating back to the 2022-23 season.
  • Three Hawks players are averaging double-figure points: Divine Dibula (12.9), Alexis Andrews (11.5), and Alexis Davies (11.3).
  • Davis leads the team and ranks second in the CAA in rebounds per game at 8.4, while Dibula has a league-high 63% field goal percentage.
  • As a team, Monmouth is third in the conference with 9.64 steals per game.
  • The Hawks are on a five-game win streak, finishing 7-4 in nonconference play.
vs. Hampton
  • Series record: Elon leads, 4-2
  • The Phoenix are 4-1 in their last five games against Hampton, including two straight wins last season over the Pirates. Elon won the most recent meeting, 59-51, on Jan. 10, 2025, at Elon.
  • The Pirates are led in scoring by transfers Kiki McElrath (12.3) and Kayla Lezama (11.4).
  • Hampton has lost three in a row against Howard, Radford, and Eastern Kentucky. They'll host CAA counterpart Stony Brook on Friday, before heading to Elon.

1. One For The Record Books
  • The Phoenix are riding a two-game home win streak following a program-record 111–50 win over N.C. Wesleyan.
  • Elon's 111 points set a new program scoring record, surpassing the previous mark of 106 against Coker on Nov. 27, 2017.
  • Tamia Watkins posted Elon's first double-double of the season with 23 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 64.3% (9-for-14) from the field while adding a career-high two blocks and matching her season-high with three steals.
  • LaNae' Corbett recorded her first 20-point outing of the season, finishing with 20 points on an efficient 80% (8-for-10) shooting performance.
  • Ashlee Shaw established new career highs with 18 points and a team-best five steals, while Laila Anderson added a season-high 12 points, connecting on 50% (2-for-4) of her attempts from three-point range.
  • Ashanti Fox also reached double figures with 12 points and led the Phoenix with a season-high six assists.
  • The Phoenix pulled down a season-best 23 offensive rebounds while limiting NC Wesleyan to its fewest total rebounds allowed this season.
  • Elon's 34 forced turnovers marked a season high.
  • The 61-point margin of victory matched Elon's largest since a 98–37 win over Winthrop on Nov. 10, 2017.
2. No Fly Zone
  • Elon is a top-20 team nationally in three-point percentage defense, ranking 16th in Division I and limiting its opponents to just 24.5% shooting from three-point range. 
  • The Phoenix has held seven of its nonconference opponents to shooting 25% or worse (22-132 total) from beyond the arc, leading the CAA.

3. Strong Inside, Been Here Before
  • Quinzia Fulmore, a graduate transfer, and Corbett, a sophomore transfer, have played in the CAA before, providing the Phoenix with an experience boost among their newcomers.
  • Fulmore is a powerhouse inside and continues to lead the Phoenix on the boards with 6.0 rebounds per game, which tied for 14th in the CAA. She is also tied for 13th in the CAA in blocks per game (0.7).
  • Corbett leads the Phoenix offense with eight double-figure scoring games this season while averaging a team-high 11.3 PPG, ranking tied for 20th in the conference.
  • Corbett is fifth in the conference in field goal percentage at 47.0% and is also tied for 10th in the CAA, averaging 1.6 steals per game. 
  • Fulmore led the Phoenix at UNCG, shooting a perfect 100% (3-for-3) from the field and making a career-high six free throws.
  • The duo helped seal a dominant victory over Norfolk State, with Corbett sharing the team lead with 14 points, while Fulmore recorded her second double-figure rebounding performance of the season with a season-high 11 boards. 
  • Corbett notched her first 20-point performance of the season, shooting 80% (8-for-10) from the field against N.C. Wesleyan.
. Walker In Motion
  • Tyana Walker joins Corbett and Fulmore as a transfer on the Elon roster after spending her last two seasons at Howard, where she was named 2024 MEAC Rookie of the Year and was selected to the All-Rookie Team.
  • Walker scored a season-best 22 points to lead the Phoenix in a loss against Tulane on Nov. 27 at the Paradise Jam, shooting 50% (8-for-16) from the floor and 67% (6-for-9) from the three-point line. She was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Harbor Division at Paradise Jam.
  • Walker nearly notched a double-double in the season opener at ETSU, finishing with nine points and a career-high 11 rebounds.
  • She leads the team with 19 made three-pointers, tying for 10th in the conference, and averages 1.6 per game. She also ranks fifth in the conference in three-point percentage (37.3%).
  • Walker reached double figures for the third time this season in the win over Norfolk State, sharing the team lead with 14 points while shooting 75% (3-for-4) from three-point range.  
5. Bench/Freshmen Boost
  • Elon has the best scoring bench in the CAA, averaging 28.8 points per game, which also ranks 32nd nationally.
  • Freshmen Ashanti Fox and Tamia Watkins provide the spark for the Phoenix as the team's leading bench scorers, averaging 7.3 points per game.
  • Both freshmen reached double-figures against N.C. Wesleyan, with Watkins leading the team with her first collegiate double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Fox added 12 points, shooting 83% (5-for-6) from the field, and added a season-high six assists.
