Women’s Basketball Welcomes Delaware Friday, Drexel Sunday

ELON, N.C. — The Elon women's basketball team (13-10, 7-5 CAA) continues its homestand with matchups against Delaware (9-14, 6-7 CAA) on Friday at 7 p.m. for the team's Black History Month game, followed by a 1 p.m. contest against Drexel (13-9, 9-3 CAA).

SERIES HISTORY
  • Elon holds a narrow 11-10 edge in the all-time series against Delaware.
  • The Phoenix defeated the Blue Hens earlier this season, 69-67.
  • Drexel leads the all-time series against Elon, 16-6, after the Phoenix fell 64-47 on the road earlier this season.
LAST TIME OUT
  • Elon went 1-1 last weekend, securing a 70-56 road win over UNCW before falling 48-45 at home against Campbell.
  • Raven Preston recorded her seventh double-double of the season against UNCW, leading the team with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

  • Iycez Adams sits seventh in the conference in both total blocks (30) and blocks per game (1.3).
  • As a team, Elon ranks third in the CAA in steals per game (9.3) and offensive rebounds per game (13.7).
  • The Phoenix is one of only two teams in the conference to record double-digit blocks in a game this season.
JAYDA'S ANGELS
  • Freshman Jayda Angel has earned five CAA Rookie of the Week honors so far in the 2024-25 season.
  • Angel matched her career-high with 20 points against Campbell, leading the team off the bench for the eighth time this season.
  • Angel contributed 10 points and four rebounds in Elon's win at UNCW.
  • Angel led the team in scoring for the seventh time this season, finishing with 14 points, six rebounds, and two steals against the Tribe.
  • Angel tied for the team-lead with nine points and five rebounds against Drexel.
  • Angel led the Phoenix in scoring off the bench with 14 points in the win over Delaware, also matching her season-high with four assists to pace the team.
  • Angel was named CAA Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season after an outstanding weekend, averaging 11.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.5 steals in Elon's victories over Stony Brook and Hofstra.
  • Jayda Angel recorded her eighth double-figure scoring performance of the season with 14 points against the Pride, along with six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
  • In the team's win over Stony Brook, Angel led the team with nine rebounds and three steals.

SCOUTING DELAWARE
  • Delaware enters the matchup with a 9-14 overall record and a 6-7 mark in CAA play, coming off a five-game winning streak.
  • The Blue Hens finished last season with an 11-20 record, including a 7-11 performance in CAA competition, placing 10th in the league standings.
  • Delaware was predicted to finish sixth in the 2024-25 CAA Preseason Poll.
  • Chloe Wilson received All-CAA Preseason Second Team honors, while Ande'a Cherisier and Tara Cousins earned Honorable Mention recognition.
  • Cousins (11.5), Cherisier (11.2), Wilson (10.5), and Rebecca Demeke (10.2) all average double-digit scoring for Delaware.
  • Wilson also leads the team and ranks fifth in the CAA in rebounds, averaging 8.3 per game, while Cousins ranks second in the league in three-point field goal percentage at 38.1 percent.
  • Ella Wanzer has a team-best 39 steals this season, while Cousins leads in assists, averaging 3.8 per game.
  • Head coach Sarah Jenkins is in her third season leading the Blue Hens' program.
SCOUTING DREXEL
  • Drexel holds a 13-9 overall record and a 9-3 mark in CAA play, coming off back-to-back wins over UNCW and William & Mary.
  • Last season, the Dragons finished 19-15 overall and 10-8 in league play, securing seventh place in the CAA standings. They went on to win the CAA Championship before falling to Texas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
  • Drexel was projected to finish second in the conference with two first-place votes in the 2024-25 CAA Preseason Poll.
  • Sophomore guard Amaris Baker, a member of the All-CAA Preseason First Team, leads the league in scoring with an average of 18.0 points per game.
  • Chloe Hodges ranks first in the conference in steals per game (2.4) and also leads the team with 4.6 assists per game, ranking second in the CAA.
  • Deja Evans leads the team and ranks second in the league in blocked shots, averaging 2.3 per game.
  • Baker and Grace O'Neill lead the CAA in minutes played, each averaging over 35.9 minutes per game.
  • Amy Mallon is in her sixth season as the head coach of Drexel's women's basketball program.

  • The maroon and gold will travel to Charleston on Friday, Feb. 28, for a 7 p.m. matchup before hosting North Carolina A&T on Sunday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
