Women’s Basketball Clinches Win In Final Regular Season Game At Monmouth

WEST LONG BEACH, N.J. — The Elon women's basketball team (15-14, 9-9 CAA) closed out their regular season with a dominant 70-54 win at Monmouth (15-14, 10-8 CAA) thanks to a strong second half offensive performance.

THE RUNDOWN
  • Raven Preston opened the game with back-to-back buckets, giving Elon a quick 5-0 lead with 7:48 left in the first quarter. The Phoenix extended their advantage to 7-3 before Monmouth responded, tying the game at 7-7. Hannah Dereje converted on three consecutive shots, pushing Elon ahead 13-9, but the Hawks closed the quarter with two baskets to tie it 13-13 after one.
  • Elon started the second quarter strong with a 6-0 run, building a 19-13 lead. Monmouth answered, cutting the deficit to 20-19 with 6:18 remaining in the first half. The Hawks then closed the quarter on a 12-1 run, taking a 31-21 lead into halftime.
  • Kamryn Doty knocked down a three-pointer, bringing Elon within seven at 31-24 to start the third quarter. The teams traded baskets before the Phoenix found themselves trailing 35-26. Preston hit a jumper, followed by another three-pointer from Doty, cutting the deficit to four at 35-31with 7:15 left in the third quarter. Elon then compiled a 6-2 run to knot the score at 37-37. The teams traded baskets before back-to-back scores from Preston put Elon ahead 45-41. Monmouth closed the third quarter on a 6-2 run, but Elon held a narrow 48-47 leadheading into the final frame.
  • The Phoenix maintained their momentum, building a 54-59 advantage before Monmouth pulled within three. Elon then closed out the game on a dominant 13-0 run, capped by Doty's fourth three-pointer and a layup from Ava Leroux, securing a 70-54 road win.
NOTES
  • Elon maintained its starting lineup of Iycez Adams, Laila Anderson, Ava Leroux, Maraja Pass, and Raven Preston.
  • Preston led the team with 20 points, marking her third 20-point performance this season, and secured her eighth double-double with 12 rebounds.
  • Adams matched her season-high with 13 rebounds, pacing Elon on the boards.
  • Pass recorded a team-high four assists, while Leroux and Jayda Angel each added two assists apiece.
  • Kamryn Doty provided a strong spark off the bench, tallying 14 points and tying her career-high with four three-pointers.
  • Angel also came up big off the bench, contributing 12 points and four rebounds.
  • The Phoenix held Monmouth to just seven points in the final quarter, all coming from the free-throw line.
  • Elon dominated the glass, outrebounding Monmouth 43-34, including a 20-8 advantage on offensive rebounds.
