INSIDE THE MATCHUPS
vs. Towson
- Series record: Elon trails, 7-12
- Thursday's contest at Schar Center is the first of two meetings between the Phoenix and the Tigers (11-9, 3-4) this season, as the teams will meet again in Towson, Maryland, on Thursday, Feb. 26. It's the first time since the 2021-22 campaign that Elon and Towson have faced off twice in the same season.
- The Phoenix snapped a four-game losing streak to the Tigers and earned its first home win over Towson since Jan. 2, 2018, with a 69-63 victory at Schar Center on Feb. 20, 2025.
- Towson was picked as the favorite to win the CAA in the league's preseason coaches' poll. After an 0-4 start in conference play, the Tigers have won three straight games against Northeastern, Charleston and Drexel, the latter being a 59-58 comeback victory at home on Monday.

at College of Charleston
- Series record: Elon trails, 9-31
- Charleston has won eight straight against the Phoenix – the longest streak by either team in the 40-game series – since Jan. 9, 2022, including an 85-81 contest on New Year's Eve in Elon last month. Elon's last win against the Cougars was on Feb. 14, 2021.
- The Cougars enter the week coming off back-to-back league losses at Towson (61-52) and Stony Brook (112-106, 2OT) and will host Campbell on Thursday night prior to the Phoenix arriving in town.
- Bryson Cokley scored a then-career high of 23 points with four 3-pointers in the Dec. 31 loss to Charleston. Elon trimmed an eight-point halftime deficit to a one-possession game with 55 seconds remaining in the contest, but the Cougars staved off the rally.

STARTING FIVE
1. Something To Prove
Picked 12th in the CAA preseason coaches' poll, Elon has exceeded preseason expectations early, sitting in a three-way tie for second place at 4-2 through one-third of the conference slate. The Phoenix split its two-game road swing last week, falling at Northeastern (85-78) before bouncing back to hand Hofstra its first home loss of the season with an 89-85 victory.
Â
Elon now returns home to host Towson – the league's preseason favorite – on Thursday before a road test at College of Charleston two days later. The Phoenix is seeking its first winning CAA record since the 2016-17 season.
Â
2. Well-Oiled Machine
Elon's offense is producing points in a variety of ways this season, making the Phoenix a difficult matchup on any night in CAA play. Elon leads the conference and ranks 42nd nationally in scoring offense at 85.2 points per game, a figure that eclipses any previous Division I season average for the program (best: 75.9 PPG in 2015-16). The Phoenix has topped 90 points five times, including a season-high 103 in its conference opener against Northeastern on Dec. 29. Elon has pounded the paint, averaging 38.8 points per game in the paint while shooting 57.1% on 2-point field goals. The Phoenix has also been dangerous from the perimeter, leading the CAA with 9.8 made 3-pointers per game while shooting 36.5% from beyond the arc.
Â
3. Leading Roles
At the center of Elon's high-powered offense are graduate forwards
Chandler Cuthrell and
Kacper Klaczek. Cuthrell has become one of the nation's most productive scorers, averaging 21.3 PPG to rank 16th nationally while recording 14 20-point performances in 19 contests. Named to the early-season Lou Henson Award Watch List, Cuthrell is one of just six Division I players averaging at least 21.0 points (21.3) and 6.0 rebounds (6.5) per game.
Â
Klaczek has been the Phoenix's most versatile weapon, a trait he's showcased in CAA play while averaging 13.5 PPG, 7.0 RPG and 3.6 APG. The Chorzow, Poland, native is shooting 52.5% from the floor and 45.8% from 3 in conference action.
Â
4. Cookin' With Cokley
The Phoenix has a sixth starter in sophomore guard
Bryson Cokley, who is averaging 24.2 minutes per game off the bench and is coming off an electric two-game road swing at Northeastern and Hofstra. Cokley averaged 22.5 PPG on 66.7% shooting from the floor (14 of 21) and 81.8% from three (9 of 11) during a 1-1 week away from home, including a 26-point, seven-rebound, seven-assist performance at Northeastern. Cokley leads all CAA players and ranks ninth nationally among players with zero starts in points per game (12.1).
Â
5. Floor General
Elon has found both stability and poise at the point guard position in graduate
Ja'Juan Carr, a former UNCW Seahawk who helped UNC Pembroke win 74 games over three seasons (2022-25). Carr leads the CAA and ranks 27th nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.26) this season and has been even more efficient in conference play with a 4.9 ratio (34 assists, seven turnovers). More than a distributor, Carr has scored double figures three times in league action, highlighted by a season-high 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting to help rally Elon past Campbell on Jan. 10.
Â
UP NEXT
Elon welcomes William & Mary and Stony Brook to town for home contests on Jan. 29 and 31. Both games tip off at 7 p.m. ET inside Schar Center, with the latter contest against Stony Brook being televised on WRAL-TV in addition to FloCollege.
