First Day Results
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Charlise Morgan and
Kimberlyn Holt each set new school records in the shot put and hammer throws, respectively, as the Elon women’s track and field team competed at the Wake Forest Open today, March 15. The duo both finished in the top-five of their events on the first day of the meet at Kentner Stadium.
Holt broke her own school-record that she set just a week ago with a toss of 175’3” (53.42m) on her fourth attempt in the hammer throw. The Viola, Kan., native beat her previous mark of 166’10” (50.86m) she threw at Coastal Carolina last weekend and finished fifth overall.
Morgan had a heave of 45’9” (13.94m) in the shot put on her third attempt, breaking the three-year mark of 44’9.75” set by Ursula Cotton in 2010. This is the third school record Morgan has broken during the 2012-13 track and field season after claiming both the shot put and weight throw program records from the indoor season.
Holt’s toss of 41’2.25” (12.55m) in the shot put also places her in the top-five on the program’s all-time outdoor performance list.
Megan Kirschling finished fourth in the high jump with a cleared height of 5’6” (1.68m).
Louise Prevoteau joined Kirschling in the top-five in the event after clearing the bar at 5’4.25” (1.63m).
Haley Laird also cleared the bar at 5’4.25 to give the maroon and gold three athletes in the top-10.
Sydney Griffin finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.28.
Christine Pacewicz was seventh overall in the 1,500-meter “B” race with a time of 4:51.12. Elon was able to place three runners in the top-five of the 3,000-meter steeplechase led by
Caroline McCaslin’s runner-up finish and a time of 10:57.89.
Tereza Novotna was third after crossing the line with a time of 11:04.33 and
Emily Tryon was fifth overall, clocking in at 11:08.06. McCaslin's and Novotna's times were the third and fourth fastest marks in school history in, respectively, in the race .
Haylee Dawe broke into the top-five on the all-time performance list in the 5,000-meter run after the sophomore ran a time of 17:40.19, finishing eighth overall. A few members of the men’s distance team competed in the 5,000-meter run as
James Stevenson and
Ben Perron ran the third and fourth fastest outdoor times on all-time performance list, respectively. Stevenson crossed the line with a time of 15:15.37 while Perron clocked in at 15:20.10.
The Phoenix will conclude the meet tomorrow with the first event, the women’s javelin throw, scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
